Abstract: The object of the present paper will be to demonstrate that the detection of the Funny is grounded in the existence of a priori knowledge regarding the detection of incongruity pertinent to humor. Given the truth of this claim, laughter cannot be said to be indicative of the existence of phthonic attitudes in individuals because it is not concerned with the content of the jokes so much as it is with the existence of relevant incongruity in any joke.
